LOCTITE® 55 has received two prestigious 2025 Red Dot Awards in the categories of Product Design and Sustainable Design, recognizing both the robust, user-friendly packaging of its 160-meter thread sealant and the product’s advancements in sustainability. These awards follow earlier recognitions, including the 2024 German Packaging Award and the WorldStar Global Packaging Award.
The Red Dot Design Award, established in 1955, is one of the world’s most respected honors in design, celebrating innovation, quality, and excellence. The 2025 awards ceremony took place on July 8 at the Red Dot Museum in Essen, Germany.
The jury praised LOCTITE 55’s compact and monomaterial packaging, which improves recyclability and supports environmental goals. In the newly introduced Sustainable Design category, the product stood out for its ergonomic, user-friendly, and eco-conscious design.
“These two Red Dot Awards are a testament to Henkel’s innovation and entrepreneurial spirit,” said Niamh O’Reilly, Vice President Innovation for General Manufacturing and Maintenance at Henkel Adhesive Technologies. “This success reflects the close collaboration of our expert teams, who transform customer insights into solutions that set new standards in usability and sustainability. LOCTITE 55’s improved recyclability and waste reduction support our commitment to a more circular economy. We’re especially grateful to our design partner Dolman for their creative contribution to this customer-focused innovation.”
LOCTITE 55 is widely used by installers and maintenance professionals in plumbing and HVAC for sealing threaded metal and plastic pipes in systems carrying hot and cold water, natural gas, and hydrogen. The new 160-meter packaging, launched in 2024, is made from 70% recycled plastic and enhances ease of use.
Unlike traditional sealing methods such as PTFE tape or hemp and paste, LOCTITE 55 does not require curing, providing an instant, high-pressure seal. The application is quick and straightforward—simply wrap the thread around the pipe in the direction of the threading, overlap it with each turn, cut with the integrated cutter, and tighten the fittings. Unlike PTFE tape, it allows for repositioning without compromising the seal, offering greater flexibility and time savings.
