Polyvantis, a leading manufacturer of semi-finished PLEXIGLAS® acrylic products, has announced the launch of a new closed-loop recycling program for PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) plastics, in collaboration with recycling specialist Pekutherm Kunststoffe GmbH.

With a strong commitment to sustainability and circularity, Polyvantis is taking a significant step forward in reducing the environmental footprint of PLEXIGLAS®. The program extends recycling capabilities beyond in-house production to include fabricators and retailers across Europe. This customer-focused initiative allows partners to return production waste and offcuts for recycling, helping conserve valuable resources, reduce landfill waste, and support a functioning circular economy.

“Recycling is a shared responsibility. We’re proud to offer our customers a practical and impactful way to contribute,”
said Falk Majert, EVP Commercial Core for Polyvantis.
“By working together, we can ensure valuable PMMA material stays in use and out of the environment.”

Recycling PLEXIGLAS®: simple, certified, and circular

The returns system is designed for efficiency. Fabricators and retailers can continue using their existing procedures to collect PLEXIGLAS® offcuts, which are picked up by Pekutherm for processing. The re-granulated material is reintegrated into Polyvantis’ production cycle, where it is used to manufacture high-quality semi-finished products, such as PLEXIGLAS® proTerra with virtually no loss in performance.

Participating companies benefit from environmental responsibility and full transparency: recycling certificates are available upon request, providing documented proof that PMMA waste has been responsibly recycled and returned to the material loop.

A Europe-wide network for a sustainable future

Polyvantis and Pekutherm are part of a broader Europe-wide alliance dedicated to PMMA recycling. This new program supports the development of a scalable infrastructure for circularity in the PMMA value chain and invites more stakeholders to join the initiative.

By combining technical expertise and logistics capabilities, the alliance is laying the groundwork for a more sustainable future, one product, one partnership at a time.
